Carlos Kretz

Nací en Rosario, Argentina, donde estudié y me recibí, primero de electrotécnico en la ex Escuela Industrial, hoy Politécnico General San Martín, y luego de ingeniero mecánico y electricista en la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario.

Desde mi infancia y durante toda mi vida, prácticamente dedicada a la empresa de tecnología que inicié poco después de concluir los estudios, he tenido el hobby de construir miniaturas.

En especial me atraen los motores de vapor. En su juventud mi abuelo había trabajado en minas como operador de esos grandes motores, y desde chico yo le hacía describir una y mil veces ese trabajo y los detalles de las máquinas. Es muy probable que esas imágenes que yo asimilaba hayan sido la semilla que originó mi afición hacia esa vieja tecnología.

Quiero considerar estas miniaturas como un homenaje a todos aquellos que crearon y perfeccionaron el motor a vapor, porque no hay duda de que su esfuerzo continuado y eficiente logró gestar un pilar fundamental en el desarrollo de la revolución industrial.

I was born in Rosario, Argentina. I first studied Electrotechnics in the former Industrial School, today Polytechnic High School General San Martin, I got my degree as an Electromechanical Engineer in the Engineering Faculty at the National University of Rosario, and shortly after that I founded a techonology company I practically devoted my life to.

Since I was a child, actually, throughout my life I have had the hobby of building miniatures.

I have always been particularly attracted to steam engines. In his youth, my grandfather worked in mines. He operated and was responsible for these large engines, and, as a kid, I used to ask him, once and again, to tell me about his work and to give me details about the machinery. These images, which I still keep fresh in my mind, might have been the seed for my love to steam technology.

I am therefore happy to consider my thumbnails as a tribute to all the people who created and improved the steam engine, because their work and their effort was, without doubt, a cornerstone in the industrial revolution.
